2012 February Director's Report

CRESCENT BEACH PROPERTY OWNERS’ ASSOCIATION

MINUTES OF DIRECTORS MEETING ON SUNDAY February 5, 2012 – 9 AM

ATTENDEES:

AGENDA ITEM:

1. DISASTER PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE UPDATE
Presented by Margo Thomson and Henri Wendel.

a) EMERGENCY NUMBER INFO SHEETHenri has been working on an INFO SHEET that would be provided to all CBPO households. This info sheet would provide many of the necessary phone numbers and resources that would be needed if faced with a local disaster. Henri presented a variety of different options, such as logos and functional pieces, to gather the Directors’ input. The response was positive. Henri will finalize the details of the info sheet and confirm with the Disaster Preparedness Committee.

b) FIRST AID TRAINING
An update was provided by Margot and Henri as to the feasibility of providing first aid training to the CBPO who are interested. Having as many trained individuals would help the community as a whole in the event of a disaster.


c) STRUCTURE OF THE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE
UPDATE
A brief review of the committee’s structure which includes 3 sub-committees
noted as follows:

 Community Liaison
 Communication (during a disaster)
 First Aid


2. CBPOA LOGO A discussion was had as to the changing the present Crescent Beach Logo. A logo presented by Henri Wendel was received very positively. Further confirmation to
follow.

4. COMMUNITY MEETING WITH CITY OF SURREY Mark Nelson is in the process of setting up a meeting with a group of
individuals with a vested interest in the City of Surrey. This would include
individuals such as Mayor, Diane Watts and Councillor, Barinder Rasode. The
purpose of the meeting would address some areas of concern to the CBPOA
Directors and Membership. Some proposed agenda items include the following:

 General Maintenance issues. i.e. the open beach/volleyball court at the end of Sullivan Street. Concern has been expressed over the increasing amount of large weeds as well as lack of general maintenance. As well, address the increasing need for maintenance on the groins at the beach which have been deteriorating over recent years.
 The status of the proposed “traffic calming” in the form of speed bumps on Bayview St. The City of Surrey has budgeted for this in their 2012 budget and the CBPOA Directors would like a more definitive date on its implementation. It would be urged by the CBPOA Directors that these speed bumps be completed by the end of spring of 2012.
 Ensure that the City of Surrey progressing with Community Safety for Crescent Beach.
 Status of the Whistle Cessation
 Parking Issues – increasing demand. Can we improve the present parking?

5. CRESCENT BEACH GREEN INITIATIVE 2012 GOALS The committee provided the CBPOA Directors with its goals for 2012. They
include many green initiatives to improve sustainability of our community.
These goals will address the areas of land, air, local business, residences and
outreach.

6. COMMUNITY MEETING UPDATE – (held January 10, 2012)
A community meeting was held with various City of Surrey staff as well as
other community representatives of Crescent Beach. Mark Nelson, Erik Seitz and
Malcolm Stewart attended on behalf of the CBPOA Directors. Mark provided the
Directors a review of the minutes from that meeting. Many action items were posed
by the group including community policing initiatives, signage etc. Mark will plan
to have a follow-up meeting with the group in mid-March 2012.( see above item #4)
Malcolm and Erik will follow-up with Tim Neufeld from the City of Surrey – Parks
regarding signage and its implementation at Crescent Beach.

7. TREASURERS REPORT
Malcolm Stewart provided the Directors with the current balance.

8. MARCH MEETING – WEDNESDAY MARCH 7, 2012 Agenda items for the upcoming March CBPOA meeting included the following:

Susan Caley – Community Safety Officer r
Re. policing this summer at Crescent Beach
 Updates on the following:
- Traffic calming on Bayview
- Proposed Community Meeting with the Mayor of Surrey and other City representatives and the CBPOA Directors
- City garbage and recycling initiatives
Call for election of positions - The following positions are available for election:
- President
- Vice-President
- Membership Chair
